The first time my friend Beth and I tried to find Beaker and Flask, we couldn’t. We drove around the blocks where Google Maps said it lived and we just couldn’t find it. Little did we know it sits propped high on the corner SE 8th and Washington like a glowing beacon of North West deliciousness.
With a name like Beaker and Flask, I expected cozy and intimate. Dark woods and whiskey. Walking into Beaker and Flask in like walking into a bowl of 1940’s sunshine. Bright turquoise green tiles, funky science lab barstools, and sun spilling in through their wall of western facing windows like a gift from the heavens.
Oh and the food! Goodness. House made butter sprinkled with coarse sea salt, butter lettuce with buttermilk tarragon dressing and rabbit. Oh yes, bunny. If rabbit is on the menu, then I rarely see anything else. I can’t quite remember what was going on on my plate, rabbit sausage, stuffed with pork sausage…I think. I was starved, it was absolutely delicious (exactly what I needed after a long day of shooting) and after washing it down with a beautiful Cabernet Franc, I was, to say the least, content.
I will return and you MUST visit them. Don’t look for a sign though. 727 SE Washington is all you need to know.
